Bruce Lee’s parents Lee Hoi Chuen and Grace lived in Hongkong. In 1939 his parents moved with their son Peter as well as their daughters Phoebe and Agnes to San Francisco. On November 27, 1940 in the year of the Dragon of China, the 4th child of Lee Hoi Chue was born and called Lee Jun Fan (Bruce Lee). When Bruce was three months old they moved to Hongkong.
Already when he was only 4 years old he was allowed to play with his other two sisters in little roles in the Cantonese Opera Company.
When he was young his father sent him to Master Yip Man to learn Wing Tsun. But Bruce always fought in the school or on the street.
Bruce Lee was not only a good Kung-Fu fighter, but he was a good dancer too. In his native countries Hongkong an USA he won many dance-competitions. So he was Cha-Cha-Master too.
1959, when Bruce was 19 years old, he moved alone to USA. There he visited the High School an finally the College. He took up philosophy-studies at the University of Washington. He earned his money by working in a restaurant as a waiter. But he noticed that he wasn’t happy with his life. So he stopped the job and began to teach Kung-Fu. His future wife was one of his students. After Bruce and Linda’s wedding on November 17, 1964 the young pair moved to Oakland, California.
On February 1st, 1965 their first son Brandon was born.
During a tournament in Long Beach, a movie crew discovered Bruce’s talent in a fight.
His debut as an actor was in 1966 in a popular series called ”The Green Hornet“ which made him well known. He was to see in series as „Longstreet“ or in the movie ”Marlow“.
The Lee family moved in ’69 to Los Angeles, where Bruce’s daughter Shannon was born. In LA Bruce opened some schools, where he taught the others his new style ”Jet Kune Do“. He hoped that Hollywood discovered him, but it didn’t happen. Disappointed he went back to Hongkong, where he continued the series ”The Geen Hornet”. In shortest time he had millions of fans.
With a producer called Raymond Chow they established Bruce’s Production-Company, which made movies as ”The Way of the Dragon” (1972) and ”Enter the Dragon” (1973). There Bruce was director, actor and writer.
1972 Bruce began with the movie ”Game of Death”, but he stopped to make ”Enter the Dragon”. ”Game of Death” was finished in 1978, but there were only 12 minutes to see the real Bruce Lee, because Bruce died on July 20, 1973 in Hongkong, because of an allergic reaction. 20 years later his son Brandon got shot dead with a real weapon in a movie. Brandon was buried next to his father.
He is one of my favourite actors. My favourite movie is ” The Way of the Dragon”.
