Elvis Presley ( by Nathalie Winter )

The reason why I chose the biography of Elvis is because he's for me a very interesting person, and his songs are very romantic and beautiful, also today. Elvis is and was the King of Rock'n'Roll.
He was born on the 8th January 1935 in East Tupelo/ MS. At 17, he worked as a truck driver. And he was very happy. But then, he began to make music. The first song was "My Happiness". He wrote the song for his mother. Sam Phillips the boss of this lable, heard the recording and was very interested. Elvis, this young man, had a voice, and he danced like a black man. Provocative hip swings, histeric fans and he looked very sexy. That was Elvis! At his first concerts, teenagers were histerical and became more daring to dress also in such a way.

As Tom Parker became the manager, Elvis became good. The first publication of "Heartbeat Hotel" was eight weeks at place one and sold millions of copies. Many songs followed and he became famous. From 1956 till 1982 Elvis recorded 152 songs. Most of them were very long top hits in the charts. 94 gold singles; over 40 gold albums. But Elvis wasn't content. He wanted to be a filmstar. Presley succeeded and he made more than 33 films, from 1955 till 1977.

Then Elvis went two years to Germany and as he was back, he was a completely different person. The photos with the army haircut went around the world. In this time in Germany he met Priscilla. On the first of May 1967, Elvis and Priscilla were married in a private ceremony amongst a small group of family and friends at the "Aladdin Hotel" in Las Vegas. The couple went on their honeymoon for a few days to Palm Springs. Elvis and Priscilla, dressed in their wedding clothes, had a second wedding on the 29th May 1967 at Graceland with the rest of the family and their friends. Graceland was his home in Memphis.

In December 1967 the happiness was perfect, because his daughter Lisa-Marie was born. All in the family were very happy. Lisa-Marie was the most important person in Elvis’ life.

His marriage with Priscilla was divorced in 1973. Later he had increasing problems with his soul and drugs. He was very unhappy and lonely. He ate too much and then he took tablets to be happy. His manager Tom Parker wanted to have more and more money and pushed him to make concerts and more songs. But Elvis was very unhappy and wanted to forget all of this. Presley took pills to wake up, and pills to sleep.

On the 16th August 1977, Elvis died. The whole world was shocked and sad about this news. On all newspapers in the world were pictures of Elvis. "That can't be true!". Still after 25 years, the fans go to Graceland on the day of his death and bring flowers and candles.
The King of Rock'n'Roll will never die and is still in their hearts.
