Marilyn Monroe was born on 6th June 1926 in Los Angeles as Norma Jeane Mortensen/ Backer. Her mother was Glarys Mortensen and her father was unknown to her death.
Until Marilyns 7th birthday, she lived in a foster-family, then she lived with her mother in Hollywood. Marilyn often went to the cinema and enjoyed her life, but Gladys suffered under depressions and had to stay in a psychiatric hospital.
In the next years, she lived with Grace, her mothers friend, then in more foster-families, with relatives and in the orphanage.
As she was 16 years old, she married James Dougherty. But they were very unhappy and they soon got a divorce.
After her 20th birthday, she got a contract with the film company 20th Century Fox and she had to think of an artist name. Marilyn suggested the maiden name of her mother: Monroe. As the first name she took the name of the actress Marilyn Miller. So the name Marilyn Monroe was born.
Her first film was called: Scudda-Hoo ! Scudda-Hay !
When she was 27 years old, she married the baseball player Joe DiMaggio. But he was very jealous and hit Marilyn, so she got a divorce after only two weeks.
In 1955 Marilyn moved to New York, but there she was not very happy and turned to sedative injections. In summer 1956 she married the author Arthur Miller. In two years she had three miscarriages and very bad depressions. Also this marriage ended in a divorce before Christmas, because of her addiction to tablets.
In 1962, she had an affair with President John F. Kennedy and later with Kennedys brother Robert, too.
On the 1st June 1962, on her 36th birthday, she stood the last time in front of a camera. She had again and again depessions.
On the 4th August she was found in her flat: dead.
But a 100 % certainty of the death cause was never found.
The truth will never be unveiled.
The life of Marilyn Monroe impressed me very much. She recovered again and again in spite of many declines and problems and she is also today, 40 years after her death, still an idol.
