Vanessa Mae ( by Aaron Heusser )

Vanessa Mae was born on October 27th, 1978. Her father is from Thailand and her mother is Chinese. Vanessa lived the first three years in Singapore, where she was born. Later she went with her mother to London, where she still is living now. She started to play piano at the age of three. When she was five she began to play violin.
Vanessa‘s first concert was at the age of nine. One year later she played with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. After three classical recordings she started to work on „The Violin Player“.

The album ran up the charts in over twenty countries. She was the first instrumentalist, who was nominated for the „Brit Awards“. In her album „Storm“ she started to sing the first time on an album. In 1997 she played in Hong Kong at the ceremony, when Hong Kong was given back to China. At the same time she produced the album „China Girl“.

The magazine „People“ voted her as one of the most beautiful people of the world. Vanessa was the first artist who played on an electric violin and also the first who mixed pop and classic music. She named this mix „Techno Acoustic Fusion“. The music was very unusual, because nobody could imagine that it was possible to play this music style on a violin.

In January 2001 I saw her live in concert at an „Art on Ice“ event. She played a lot of songs from the album „Storm“. The figure skaters were interpreting her music. The show was a success and I enjoyed it very much. That‘s also the reason why I chose to write about her biography.
